• Upon receiving the unit, BellyBeats recommends that you take the unit with you to your next Prenatal exam so that your Doctor can use the Doppler during the examination and provide you with his/her own tips on use! You will also be able to take note of "where" the Doctor locates your baby's heartbeat so you can try the same spot when you get home!
  
  
• A full bladder may make finding the heartbeat a little easier.
  
  
• Use plenty of Doppler ultrasound lotion in order to prevent any air bubbles from forming between the skin and the probe.? If you run out of lotion, you can order more from us, or use the type of body lotion of your choice. Mineral oil also works great!
  
  
• When searching for the fetal heartbeat, move the probe slowly, starting on the middle of your belly, below the belly button but above the pubic hairline.? The probe should be rocked and moved around the belly very slowly.? The slow motion will minimize noise and help avoid missing the heartbeat.
  
  
• It is important to keep the entire probe face in contact with the skin surface.? Holding the probe in this manner allows you to obtain the best possible sounds.
  
  
• If you hear "two" different heartbeats, do not be alarmed, you may hear the same heartbeat a few inches apart.? Physicians listen for the difference in two heartbeats to determine if there are two fetuses in your belly.?You'll know soon enough if this is the case at your prenatal appointment.
  
  
• With the BellyBeats Fetal Doppler Monitor, if the red light is on, check to see that the cord is plugged into the main unit and probe.? If when turning the unit on, the light is flashing green or is red, replace the battery with a fresh one.? With the BellyBeats Digital Fetal Doppler, if the heartbeat display flashes or if the unit shuts off during use, the battery needs to be replaced.? Both types of Doppler use a 9-volt alkaline battery.
  
  
• If no light comes on, make sure the battery is properly installed.
